Vol.13. Nobuhito Nakaoka

Date: March 26, 2023

On a sunny day in Tamba, Hyogo, we had the privilege of visiting the renowned artist, Nobuhito Nakaoka. Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of this quaint town, Nakaoka's gallery stands as a testament to his artistic journey, a journey that is as fascinating as the man himself.

As we stepped into the gallery, we were greeted by an array of Nakaoka's works, each piece telling a unique story, each story a reflection of the artist's soul. Nakaoka graciously took us on a tour, explaining the inspiration and the process behind his creations.

One of the most intriguing aspects of our conversation was when Nakaoka delved into the process of firing, a crucial stage in the creation of his art. He described it as "making without touch, but with the gravity of earth." This profound statement resonated deeply with us, encapsulating the essence of his artistry. It was a reminder that art is not just about the physical act of creation, but also about the unseen forces that shape it.

In Nakaoka's world, the earth's gravity becomes an artist's tool, silently and invisibly contributing to the creation process. It's a beautiful metaphor for the unseen struggles, the untold stories, and the quiet resilience that often lie behind the most stunning works of art.

Our visit to Nobuhito Nakaoka's gallery was more than just an exploration of his art; it was a deep dive into the mind of an artist, a glimpse into the delicate balance between creativity and practicality, and a testament to the unseen forces that shape our world. As we left the gallery, we carried with us not just the memory of Nakaoka's stunning works, but also the echoes of his struggles, his dreams, and his profound connection with the gravity of earth.
