Futoshi Yamashita lives and makes his pottery in Aso, Kumamoto, the biggest caldera in the world surrounded by beautiful nature which used to be volcano. He uses clay from Aso and uses ash and other ingredients from volcano to make glazes as well, so he call his works volcano pottery. Potters usually fire in the kiln once or twice, but he fires as much as 5 times to be satisfied with the quality and expression of the piece. His works are totally one of the kind piece.

This particular cup was once chipped, and fixed with traditional kintsugi technique using Urushi and silver. It is food safe, but DON'T use microwave, it would sparkle and burns.
