Kaiyama is a woodworker based in the mountainous forests of Nagano Prefecture, Japan, where he crafts everyday objects that celebrate the quiet beauty of natural wood. Working primarily with Japanese zelkova (keyaki), wild cherry, and chestnut, Kaiyama allows the material to speak—following the grain, honoring the imperfections, and shaping each piece with a deep respect for its origin.

From hand-carved spoons and trays to elegant bowls and vessels, his work combines timeless Japanese aesthetics with functional design. Every curve is intentional, every surface hand-finished to invite touch. Rather than hiding the knots or irregularities, he highlights them—creating pieces that feel both rooted and alive. Ibuki Kaiyama’s creations bring warmth, texture, and a sense of calm to the everyday table.
