Takeryo Kawaguchi works in Arita, a historic ceramic town renowned for its refined porcelain tradition. While deeply aware of this legacy, Kawaguchi forges his own path by working with clay sourced from the surrounding land, grounding his practice firmly in place.He creates his forms through both wheel-throwing and hand-building, allowing precision and spontaneity to coexist. Kawaguchi fires his work in gas and kerosene kilns, as well as a wood-fired noborigama, using each method to bring out different qualities in his pieces. His studio reflects this hands-on, exploratory approachÑpractical, creative, and very much his own.
