Yoichi Shiraishi
Born in Fukuoka and based in Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture, Yoichi Shiraishi explores the fine line between human intention and natural phenomenon. Using a distinctive casting technique, he pours clay slip into plaster molds and allows moisture, shrinkage, and gravity to shape the surface. Rather than controlling every step, he embraces the quiet traces left by natural processes — uneven textures, subtle warping, and organic patterns that emerge as the clay dries and fires.
Through this dialogue between material and maker, Shiraishi reveals the beauty of transformation and imperfection. Each piece becomes a record of what occurs when clay, water, and air are simply allowed to be — serene forms born from the balance of design and chance.
